Grading HD Radio - Economics

How does one measure the economics of owning of a new HD Radio?

As with the purchase of nearly everything today, researching of HD Radio starts online. First stop, iBiquity.com. iBiquity Digital is "the sole developer of HD Radio technology." There is one retailer, and five manufacturers listed at its web site: Cruthfield, JVC, Kenwood, Panasonic, Boston Acoustics, and Yamaha.

But there's a problem: Going through the links at the iBiquity web site doesn't exactly give you much information. JVC's link is to an insipid page with no mention of HD Radio. Kenwood lists its sole unit, the KTC-HR100TR, with no price or retailier location. Arriving at the Panasonic web site I'm able to locate an HD Radio receiver there, one, too. The only page where multiple products were listed with price is at Crutchfield: In-car, tabletop, and HD Radio-ready Marine Stereos are found. Crutchfield has a JVC model for $279.99, one Kenwood for $329.99, and an Alpine for $1,479.

Boston Acoustics has has its $299.99 "Recepter Radio HD". As for Yamaha, it's $1899.95 RX-V4600 is a little out of my range.
