An advertising tool for online radio!
Podcasting Will Redefine "Radio Program"

There are two stories that explain the above headline better than I can. One is about the (arguably) most-visited web site launching a search engine for RSS feeds (automatic distribution of content using Really Simple Syndication). Google is making these feeds easier to be found. The other story, a little more potent, discusses how this will recast the public's perception of radio programs.

Yahoo! has launched "Podcast Beta," a podcast search engine on (arguably) the web's most-visited site. This act will lift the popularity of audio online by making audio easier to be found. Connecting to it will be nearly automatic.

Quoting the Yahoo! "A Podcast Is..." page: "Think of a podcast as a radio show. Each show consists of a series of individual episodes that you can listen to how you want — on your PC, using your MP3 player, or with just a web browser."

Beware the above words; what they really say is that the internet is about to change the texture of a radio program. As TV responded to the internet by placing more of its programming in boxes with scrolls and multi-imaged screens, so radio will soon respond to the internet by creating shorter, non-standard length programs. Turning away from radio's "bigger than life" approach to programming is another change we'll see.

Podcasts are life funnelled to one person a thousands times.
Radio is a program broadcast to thousands, once.
