Local Ad Dollars Squeezed by Search Engines
Pundits have been saying for a few years, "Wait until local businesses get to advertise online." That wait appears over.
Within the last few months, Google and Yahoo! have both rolled out beta versions of local search. Since each company has invested much money, you know their local sales reps will soon start scouring the local market. The question is at what expense to newspapers, TV and radio stations.
Get a handle on this new form of avoiding a ten-pound telephone book. Those who spend any substantial time online will soon be using search engines instead of the book and, once that starts, local businesses will have strong incentive to spend ad dollars with the SEs.
